Symantec Unveils New Global Security Operations Center in U.S. (February 07, 2012)

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 02/07/12 -- Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced the opening of its new, expanded Security Operations Center (SOC) in Herndon, Va. to support the rapid growth of the Symantec Managed Security Services (MSS) group. This fast growth has been driven by robust customer demand for services to help organizations keep pace with the evolving threat landscape coupled with Symantec's unique portfolio of advanced security monitoring and management services offered in a simplified enterprise-wide pricing model.

"Businesses today are operating in times of advanced persistent threats and targeted attacks, therefore they require powerful technology, accurate threat intelligence, proven processes and experienced professionals to combat them," said Brian Dunphy, senior director of product management, Managed Security Services, Symantec. "Our new Security Operations Center provides capacity for more than twice the number of technical staff to help us more effectively scale our Managed Security Service offerings to our growing number of customers worldwide."

The new SOC in Herndon -- formerly located in Alexandria, Va. -- joins Symantec's other global SOCs in the UK, Australia and India as part of the first line of defense against cyber threats for customers around the world. Symantec's SOCs offer real-time, comprehensive protection from known and emerging threats, enabling organizations to minimize risk and strengthen their security posture. Symantec's SOCs analyze more than 12 billion logs worldwide each day to provide enterprise-wide protection and help customers bolster defenses and respond to new threats as they emerge.

In 2010, Symantec was the first MSSP to offer an enterprise-wide pricing model worldwide, simplifying the process for customers to acquire and maintain managed security services, even as their organization changes. The model provides customers with an annual price based on the size of their IT footprint, for any of Symantec's security monitoring offerings regardless of the quantities or types of security technologies. This enables organizations to implement a predictable strategy for security monitoring and management, without having to revisit their plans or budgets as infrastructure changes occur. With over 450 percent year-over-year growth, the enterprise-wide model has been very popular with Symantec's growing global MSS customer base.

Symantec MSS delivers 24x7 security monitoring and management services by expert security staff to organizations around the world. Symantec MSS takes a comprehensive, "edge-to-endpoint" monitoring approach to provide broad visibility of activity across an enterprise's infrastructure, and leverages threat intelligence from the Symantec Global Intelligence Network (GIN) and advanced correlation and analysis capabilities to deliver a prioritized list of actionable security incidents to enterprise security teams. The GIN monitors attack activity worldwide with 240,000 sensors in more than 200 countries, tracking more than 50,000 vulnerabilities in products from 15,000 vendors involving 105,000 technologies.
