As we look at the archived footage in our data vaults, most of it is in standard definition size (or smaller). Now that most of our animation deliveries are rendered in 1920x1080, it's important for Adobe After Effects users to find easy ways to scale the old footage cleanly. Boris FX's Uprez is a new plugin to help you do it in a few steps. It's part of the Boris Continuum Unit plugins - you can find the complete list on their website (www.borisfx.com). Although it's a very simple plugin, it's EASY and at $99, it's a very affordable way to finesse some of the smaller resolution footage into your newer, high rez comps.
NOTE: If your smaller sized footage was garbage, well - it does a pretty good job of scaling up the garbage along with the other information in those pixels. In much of the older digitally shot video, there are compression artifacts that get scaled along with everything else....
Below is a QuickTime walkthrough of the basics that you can achieve with this plugin. It's effortless - and that's what makes UPREZ a handy plugin to have in your effects arsenal.
